Bass-singer Ivo Hrachovec was born on the 27th of March 1968 in Novy Jicin. At Janacek`s conservatory in Ostrava he graduated in two subjects: Clarinet in care of Petr Bohus and Solo Song in care of associate professor Drahomira Mickova. Under her guidance he continued his studies at the University of Ostrava. In 1993 he took part in a summer internship, studying in Italian Siena under the care of maestro Carlo Bergonzi. He graduated from the university in May 1997.

In April 1996 he made his debut on the stage of the State Opera in Prague. He performed the character of monk Varlamos in the stage-manage Boris Godunov of M.P.Musorgsky. His next performance was the role of Geronio in the comic opera Turk in Italy of Gioachino Rossini. This opera was recorded by Czech television in January 1998. In May 1998 he sung the character of the monk in the opera Don Carlos of Giuseppe Verdi. In the same year he successfully accomplished an advertisement to the National Theater in Prague for a staging of baroque opera Castor and Polux by J.B.Lully, the premiere of which was in June 1999.

Now he is playing in National Theater the role of Musetto in the opera Don Giovanni of W. A. Mozart, the premiere will be in the June 2000 .

He is fond of singing coloraturas bass parts of oratorio works, baroque operas, lyric operas of Italian authors, as well as old Russian romances and Negro spirituals.

He is the laureate of several international competitions in Europe: The International Singer’s Competition of Antonin Dvorak in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic (1994, 1995); The International Singers Competition of Mikulas Schneider Trnavsky in Trnava, Slowakia (1995); Concorso Internazionale Tito Schippa in Lecce, Italy (1995); Concorso Internazionale per giovanni cantanti lirici, citta di Enna in Sicily, Italy (1996) and he is also the winner of the 32nd annual Karlovy Vary Singer’s Competition in November 1997.
